The mystery of Mint Café has been solved. Around the first of the year, owner Matt Kanegkasikorn shut the doors of his popular Coventry Road Thai restaurant. He told this reporter that he was still debating whether or not to reopen it. His other restaurant, Peppermint Thai, was keeping him extremely busy.
On January 19, the Coventry Road restaurant did reopen, only under different management.
The business was sold to longtime employee Tony Chaichana, a Thai native who recently earned an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace. The restaurant is now called High Thai’d (1791 Coventry Rd., 216-321-5000), funny considering that High Tide (Rock Bottom) was a longtime Coventry tenant.
“Everything is pretty much the same,” Chaichana told me. “Same people, same cooks, same menu.”
What is new is Monday service. High Thai’s is open seven days a week.
