The verdict on Skechers Shape Ups — the shoes that promise to put junk in your trunk — is still out. The sales pitch claims that a couple laps a day strapped into these stylish rigs and in no time you’ll be backing up a Kardashian-issue end piece. The concept may stretch the bounds of plausibility, but hey, who wants to go to the gym anyway. Consider me deceived, Kim.

One Ohio woman, however, has come to her own opinion of the product: lawsuit. According to Channel 5, southern Ohio resident Holly Ward bought a pair of the shoes in order to get toned. She walked around in the shoes for five months, and then began to feel extreme pain.

  1. I bought myself shape ups Christmas for myself. Very comfortable shoe, but after 1 week of wearing noticed a pain in my back. I kept wearing them thinking it wasn’t related. My back kept hurting. I stopped wearing the shape ups and starting wearing my Avia’s again. My back doesn’t hurt anymore. I’m in the process of contacting Skechers to exchange these for another one of their tennis shoes. Yes they look great but cause pain and injury. Obviously they didn’t do enough testing on this product. Of course a celebrity will endorse it. They get them for free.

  2. I wore my Shape Ups for about 2 months and started having severe hip pain. The only thing different in my daily routine was that I was wearing the shoes so I stopped wearing them thinking that was the reason I was in pain. I still am having bad pain. Most of my pain is when I have been sitting and I go to stand up, the pain is pretty intense then. Kinda scary hearing Holly’s story…I do have a Dr appt was made way before this story was on the news. I just want to make sure why my hips have been hurting so bad.

  3. I bought 3 pairs of the Sketchers Shape-Ups and wore them for a couple of weeks before going on a trip ( I knew I would be doing a lot of walking). During the trip, my right hip was absolutely killing me. It did not dawn on me, it was the shoes creating the trouble. Instead of me “breaking” in the shoes, they were “breaking” something in my hip area. I immediately stopped wearing them, but it has taken from October thru February of this year to heal. I still have some hip pain, and just recently went to the doctor. Without a doubt, it was the shoes! Once I realized it was the shoes creating the distress, the damage was already done. These shoes may not hurt all people, but I know they can hurt some! I am one.

  4. I also have been wearing the shape-ups and having trouble. I put it together on Monday before the story broke on Tuesday or Wednesday. I am having trouble with my right knee, it swells and has a warm feeling in the back and on the sides. Also my left hip has given me some trouble. Today I wore my Clarks and my feet dont hurt nearly so bad. Guess the shape ups are just a gimmick meant to make you spend money. They were comfortable on concrete but I guess in the end I am paying for the comfort with pain.
