Home openers are festive affairs. It’s nice to take the day off, watch baseball and drink beer in the middle of the day, and celebrate the start of a brand new season. Lots of fanfare usually accompanies such events, but Columbus is taking it a step further for the Clippers’ home opener on the 18th. They’re having a parade.
Franklin County officials Tuesday outlined the activities that will lead up to the start of the Columbus Clippers’ game against the Toledo Mud Hens at 4:05 p.m. in the new county-owned ballpark in the Arena District.
The festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a parade that will begin at High Street and Nationwide Boulevard and make its way west to Huntington Park at Nationwide and Neil Avenue. The parade will feature more than 50 participants, including former Cleveland Indians Bob Feller, Len Barker and Joe Charboneau and several ex-Clippers.
Weeeeeeeeeeee! Any time there’s a Joe Charboneau sighting, it’s a good day.

In all seriousness, if you have a chance to come down to Columbus to check this place out, do it. It’s an amazing little ballpark.
