Presented mostly without comment, here’s a pic that’s been making the rounds of a Cleveland police officer lending his hand in a tailgate beer bong. Reason No. 74 why we love tailgating in Cleveland.

Hat tip to redditer RamboNation for this one.

  1. Geez, the new roadside sobriety tests in Cleveland are getting hard…

I absolutely love this Scene Magazine Photo of the Day. I am sure there are some that will see this picture and react negatively to the officer’s participation and actions. However, without knowing any of the circumstances or the officer involved, I sure hope his superiors appreciate this for all of the positives it conveys about Cleveland, Clevelanders, and the Cleveland Police Department. Thanks for sharing this with us Scene Magazine.

  2. Why would you risk this man’s job by publishing this? If you truly feel he is one of the everyday Joe/ good guys, then you wouldn’t purposely put his job in jeopardy would you?

  3. Dooley’s one of the last cool cops (and he does his job well.). I’ve known him for years and always have a lot of respect for him. I hope they don’t try to give him crap for this. He’s just goofing around.

  4. I’m eternally suspicious of cops. (If the Legislature ever decided to require drivers to take (and test positive for) a daily nutritional supplement that they specify (using the EXACT SAME justification as they do for the seat belt law – “we say it’s good for you, period”)) – if the Ohio Legislature ever does that, COPS would blindly enforce even that patently obvious violation of your fundamental right to bodily autonomy.) I’m suspicious of cops. I salute this one for NOT being a blind enforcer of stupid laws – but I suspect his primary motive was to help enhance the city’s take from DUI citations later. The city should recognize this officer’s active role in increasing their revenues, and should NOT discipline him for this photo.

  5. Also – NOTE THAT THE FUNNEL IS EMPTY!!! There is no proof that the officer held the funnel while it was being used for consumption, there is no proof that the funnel ever WAS used to consume alcohol. This is a funny pose – but IT PROVES NOTHING that could endanger anyone’s career!

  6. Looks to me like a can of sprite in the cops left hand, not a beer… The young man is doing a sprite Bong and not a beer bong… There is liquid in the hose… it’s just clear… definitely not like any beer I’ve seen. In my opinion, that’s how it’s done. Participate to a point, maintain some authority but don’t flaunt your authority in peoples faces by overreacting to good old fun. That’s the kind of cop people will respect and stand by in times of trouble.
As a side note, if you all think this officer is so dumb to be pumping beer into the tailgaters in public, then your concern shouldn’t be about what he’s doing, it should be more about how a person that dumb could end up in a uniform in the first place.
