It’s Cleveland Beer Week and the shores of Lake Erie are certainly blessed these days with fine breweries and purveyors of zymurgy.

But what about days past? What about before Great Lakes Brewery and Indigo Imp and Thirsty Dog and the rest?

Take a trip through Cleveland’s tasty past with this page from the Cleveland Memory Project, which features photos from some of Cleveland’s 26 breweries that operated from 1910 to the 1960s, when most of the shops closed up.

The image above is King Gambrinus from the Leisy Brewery Company. He certainly looks thirsty and happy.
