I find it interesting with the announcement of a loss of nearly 600 jobs at the Ford plant in two weeks, and another 1,200 by 2009, that Congressman Dennis Kucinich (“I support the worker”) is too busy galavanting all over the country instead of his usual “screaming in front of the camera after the fact” doing nothing to help, and then disappearing from the scene. The only thing I have seen Kucinich support for decades is himself and his ego, but he talks a good line!
He needs to return his salary paid by us — the taxpayers — to the federal treasury because he is hardly at work. If I missed as many days at work as he does, I would certainly be fired!
Other than yelling loud and getting his face on TV, Kucinich has done absolutely nothing to help the district move forward economically.
I hope the voters in the 10th Congressional District decide they have been insulted, ridiculed, ignored and made to look stupid enough across the nation by this joke of a guy and vote him out of office next time!

  1. Well, from what I’ve directly observed, Congressman Kucinich is an extraordinarily hard working representative in DC. For example, recently, I was scheduled to meet with him at 8PM, but the meeting was postponed, once until 10PM because a legislative meeting ran over, and then he had additional votes to cast nearly until midmight (on a weekday!). The following day, I accompanied him as he met with constituents, interest groups, and frequently was called to the floor for voting. All of this at such a walking pace that I was obliged to jog along with him to keep up. The man is a machine! I really think the writer should take a closer look at this before making such accusations.

  2. Ford and other automakers are prosperous … using cheap labor overseas. Buy their products — they can still find cheaper workers. That’s fascism — corporate totalitarianism. Our answer is a willingness to work for wages of 100 years ago.

Businesses which incorporate — receive protection from states and federal govt — should be held as subservient to the public, as they once were. “Civil rights” and “personhood” for corporations should be seen as nonsense, and abolished.

Legislature could then make rules for the public good. They could demand that corporations who want US market access hire US workers. They could tie wages to CEO salaries or stock prices. They could break up anti-labor cartels.

Neo-liberal capitalism and “free trade” opposes any rules. Mr. Kucinich is supposed to pull this economic development out of where? Weitz is just sniping. I’m sure that Weitz would call this radical constitutional notion of The People over “persons” tantamount to “communism” or New Deal-ism.

American people prefer that local govts compete to pay extortion to corporations, but don’t raise taxes on people OR corporations. That’s magical economics.
