According to police reports, the group saw a 58-year-old woman nearby and asked if she wanted to buy a copy of their album. But when she reached for the CD, one of the group members grabbed her purse, pulling the woman’s arm into the car where it was caught in the door.
The driver then sped away with the woman’s arm still in the door, pulling her about 40 feet. She went to Cleveland Clinic to treat a fractured hand, according to police reports.
Hours after the robbery, the guys of Cake Boy Rich somehow then felt good enough to upload their music video to member Odell Spencer’s account. Investigators were then able to search through the group’s music videos to spot the vehicle Spencer allegedly drove when the robbery occurred, police reports say.
Spencer, 21, who is a former Shaker Heights football star, has been charged with aggravated robbery and there is a warrant out for his arrest. According to his personal Instagram, he describes himself as an “inspiring actor” and has made a post claiming innocence saying, “non bothered by false allegations.”
There have not been any charges made against the member accused of grabbing the woman’s purse.
Below, you can watch Cake Boy Rich’s video, filmed in the Fairfax neighborhood right before the robbery:
