Vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrroooooooooommmmmmmm. Obnoxiously rev those V6s, road hogs and speed freaks. The Ohio Turnpike Commission is considering a proposal that would jack up the speed limit on the cross-state toll road to 70 mph. The increase isn’t just to raise the rubber-per-square foot burned on the 241-mile highway or further embarrass those of us with mid-90s Saturns that can’t get over 65 mph in one piece. It’s all about the economy, stupid.
This article appears in Dec 15-21, 2010.

It is a private road so why not
stop raising the tolls and leave speed limit at 65. most vehicles run 70 to80 mph anyways.
Helps Big Oil in two ways:
1) Burns oil faster, obviously, putting more demand-side pressure on and enabling them to lay their own private tax increases on under the cover of that increased demand
2) The higher speeds will result in more accidents and – physics being what they are – those driving more fuel-efficient cars will be splattered across the highways by the bigger SUVs and so on, providing Big Oil and those who sell heavy metal with advertising worth billions. Ain’t nothing like a picture of half of a baby still inside a compact, fuel-efficient car flitting across the internet to sell heavy metal.
Of course, it also serves Israel’s interests, as it will deepen our dependency upon the Middle East’s oil – so don’t get comfy with the idea of Ohio kids finally being done with bleeding out in the sands nominally protecting our access to oil while serving Israel’s interest by providing a target of convenience for Islamic fundamentalism.
I wondered who owned Kasich & Co….being Republican, of course they’re owned…but I had rather hoped it would be somebody different this time around.
Not so.
