Democratic state Senator Nina Turner of Cleveland is fast becoming the queen of semi-satirical legislation that points out the absurdity of proposed Republican legislation.
Last fall, in response to a proposed Republican bill that would have required anyone receiving public assistance — including the unemployment they’ve paid for — to be drug-tested at their own expense, she and state Rep. Bob Hagan suggested a bill mandating the drug testing of state legislators.
Now, in response to a raft of anti-abortion bills that put women’s reproductive choices in the hands of the government, she has offered her “men’s health” bill.
According to ProgressOhio,
Turner’s legislation would include provisions to document that the symptoms are not psychological in nature, and would guide men to make the right decision for their bodies. Physicians would be required to obtain a second opinion from a psychological professional to verify that a patient has a true medical malady before the medication could be prescribed.
The site has also posted a petition you can sign to support Turner’s effort. It says,
I stand with Senator Turner and others to demand Sexual Health Equality for men! Men having been legislating Women’s Reproductive Health Choices for years now and I want to return the favor. The legislation follows the FDA’s recommendation that the evaluation of erectile dysfunction should include a determination of potential underlying causes and the identification of appropriate treatment following a complete medical assessment. When a man makes a crucial decision about his health and his body, he should be fully aware of the alternative options and the lifetime repercussions of that decision. I advocate for this legislation to ensure that all men using PDE-5 inhibitors are healthy, stable, and educated about their options — including celibacy as a viable life choice.
Next up: celibacy as a viable life choice for legislators? Ha! That’ll be the day. — Anastasia Pantsios

Great idea. However to be fair this needs to be paid for by the Government and offered free of charge to all male citizens.
And this legislation should include a PSA test and prostrate exam as well at a blood screen at no charge.
And after screening all future erectile dysfunction medications should be available at no charge to these legislators for life.
Come on lets be fair. If we can provide condoms and lube to women certainly we can provide ED pills to men.
If “free” birth control is offered to all women, can we then cease financial aid to all women that bear children after the law goes into effect?
The point is being missed again. The two comments on this article basically say “Well if she gets help with tax money, what about me and my male friends?” If women got all of the best help in America we men would still owe them more…women hold our society together and out work men by about fifty percent and they still do not get equal pay. Women out-perform men in nearly all areas, yet still are less likely to get the promotions that men get. In big business, because it is owned and controlled by men, women are still looked at as less than men. Women do not only have to put up with this today in the USA, but have put up with men throughout history. Men have fought the wars, yet men have also created the wars. Why is it so hard for men to see that many were exploited and hurt by men and that women and blacks deserve anything positive which they get. Here we are in 2012 still not giving credit to those who have always been there putting up with man’s insanity against man. And here we are still listening to a creep like Rush spit poison at our best citizens.
Thank you Senator Turner,
I am a Sixty year old grandfather, I agree with your bill, and think its high time this issue has come forward. I think there are many men who need an education, or a mother to teach them how to be civil and respectful to people of all orientations. Thank you Frank Cassianna
BRILLIANT!
I would recommend Rush Limbaugh, instead of reaching for his Viagra pill, he should put an aspirin between his knees, except I think Mitt Romney is already there.
With all the unemployment in Ohio instead of trying to bring jobs back….she wants men to get an second opinion for Viagra? So with an acute shortage of mental heath pros
(the wait time to see one is a month) the people who need the services will be hurt. My brother was killed in Afghanistan but not for this BS.
@Chuck Palmateer. I can’t imagine anyone “needing” viagra, so a one month wait time should be of no consequence. I really don’t understand the concern. It’s not BS, it’s leveling the gender inequality a bit, balancing the scales.
