Scott Wetmore’s truck crashed in grizzly fashion yesterday on I-90 in Lakewood. The mangled machine was wrapped around a pole and on fire with Wetmore, a 29-year-old from Parma, trapped in the truck with critical injuries.
Wetmore, sadly, passed away, but the effort of Good Samaritan Clevelanders who witnessed the crash was nothing short of heartwarming and heroic. NewsNet5 has the details bound to get you a little misty and more than a little proud:
When Keith Greenwald witnessed a truck drive up an embankment and into a pole along Interstate 90 in Lakewood Thursday, he did what he’s done so many times before living along the highway he ran to help.
He wasn’t alone. Others ran, motorists stopped, all trying to help the driver, Scott Wetmore, 29, of Parma, whose mangled truck was now on fire.
“Nobody was backing off, everybody just jumped right in there flames or not,” said Greenwald. “I ran out in the middle of traffic to stop a truck to get fire extinguishers out of the truck.”
Their goal was to keep the flames from spreading to the cab where Wetmore was critically injured but still conscious.
“He yelled to me ‘please don’t let me die in here’ and he said it a couple of times,” recalled Greenwald. “And I told him I’m not gonna let you die in here.”
He did die, but not because no one was there to help him.

Get a life people. This is a horrible story and you’re calling someone out on their grammar, get a life.
