The Bar: God's word come to the true temple of the people

Happy hour at the House of God.
Reverend Chris Heckaman was having a problem. Church attendance was down. Seemed people would rather spend Sundays drinking and eating wings than going to services. So Heckaman, lead pastor at the Sidney First United Methodist Church outside Dayton, developed an alternative for spiritually inclined hammered guy: If people won’t go to church, bring the church to the people. So last Sunday, Heckaman held his first ever church sermon at a bar. While he served God’s words, the waiters at the Pub Lounge delivered beer and pizza to 140 worshippers. Afterwards, everyone took turns riding the bar’s mechanical bull. Heckaman claims that no one got wasted, but says he wouldn’t have minded if they had. “Our mission is to show that you have fun while living a Christian life. There’s nothing wrong with having a drink now and then.” Amen, brother. – Becky Meiser
