Mary Jane Schriner, if you’ll remember, is the Bay Village native who was childhood friends with George Steinbrenner. During their friendship, Steinbrenner penned many a letter to her, all of which she kept. Those missives were meant to be collected into a book, but Steinbrenner’s family is blocking that from happening for now, which is sad. What’s not sad is that Schriner has taken up blogging in the meantime to pass along some of her memories of the Yankees tycoon.
She recently added another entry, this time about when she and Steinbrenner raced their cars on the streets of Cleveland. George had a convertible that was faster and bigger and nicer than Schriner’s, and as the two often debated about whose car was better, they’d end up lining up next to each other to see for sure. Steinbrenner always won… until their last race.
