Reflecting the “Two Clevelands” thesis that Ward 2 City Councilman Zack Reed riffs on now and then during legislative sessions, three shootings took place in Cleveland last night. One man was killed and two others were wounded, wrapping up a long weekend in Cleveland that looks eerily like so many other weekends of violence in this city.

The shootings took place between midnight and 2 a.m. today. No arrests were reported.

Jock Oliver, 47, died on Forest Avenue. Witnesses say he was working on his car when a younger man came up and shot him. 

The other two shootings took place at s BP gas station located at 10202 Lorain Ave. and at Bessemer Avenue. Both victims were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center.

This morning, Cleveland police reported that a veteran Fourth District officer shot a gun-wielding man on East 140th Street.  

Police Chief Calvin Williams said that officers were responding to reports of gunfire between two men. One officer was fired at while sitting in his car, and in turn returned fire, he said. Williams added that “many witnesses” saw the shooting and are working with police.

  1. This has gotta stop and maybe it’s time for aggressive pro-action. Institute at 10:00pm curfew for 16yo and under – saving lives of the innocent kids and clearing the streets of youth crime; do a crime with a gun and get the MAXIMUM sentence (attempted murder!); kill with a gun and get a mandatory DEATH penalty plus seize all financial/property assets; bring on “stop, frisk and search” as NYC has done; train peace officers in criminal, terrorist and gang profiling techniques; ban all gang symbols on anything; break-up group loitering and car cruising on our streets; increase foot patrols and neighborhood policing; develop better educational and afterschool programs, and yes (sorry to the right to carry folks) ban guns within city limits as NYC has done with some limited permits. No single thing is gonna stop or reduce our shameful crime rate; it’s going to have to be a multi-level assault on these thugs and sicko’s. I’m shocked the RNC is still coming to Cleveland.

  2. Happy witnesses gave description of the murderer. I hope they find him and put him in a cell with sharp nails on walls. I hope they will be a protest against black on black crime soon. really
