Richard Read may have released Lolo Romy as his company’s first hard cider product, but it’s the Griffin Original that started it all. Whereas Lolo Romy is a unique dessert-style cider, the Original is a true English-style pub cider.
The product, the second from Read’s Griffin Cider Works, has just been released.
“This is the original reason I started making cider in the first place,” explains Read. “I couldn’t find an American-made cider to please my palate.”
As a Brit living in the States, Read says he was pining for the types of ciders he drank back home. The just-released Griffin Original is a medium-dry, lightly carbonated pub-style cider. Boasting a pronounced apple flavor and moderate alcohol (7%), the cider goes down easy.
“You can pair this cider with any food you’d find in a pub or pull off the barbecue,” says Read.
The beverage is available at the Greenhouse Tavern, Melt Bar & Grilled, ABC Tavern, and most Heinen’s and Zagara’s supermarkets.
