Randy Westfall, the lately resigned former mayor of Valley View, has pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering and racketeering, via the Plain Dealer’s John Caniglia.
Westfall’s crimes consisted largely of siphoning funds from campaign donations for personal use. According to documents reviewed by Caniglia, Westfall used the money for trips to Mexico, car payments, property acquisition and, notably, $3,000 worth of whatever they sell at Hawthorne Valley Country Club. He also laundered funds through his carpet-cleaning business, Exact Change.
The 63-year-old, mustachioed Westfall joins the ranks of Cuyahoga County public officials who have abused their public office. Caniglia reports that Westfall could face up to 10 years in prison when sentenced next month in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.
