I can’t take credit for finding this gem. The proprietor behind Cleveland Frowns has been all over this design for a long time now. It’s his favorite t-shirt, and with good reason — it’s quite brilliant. Now, Shelf Life Clothing has come out with a hoodie of the same design, perfect for the cold nights of October baseball down at the…………er. Well, you’ll get to wear it next spring, I guess.
This article appears in Aug 12-18, 2009.

The Cleveland Indians were named after Louis Sockalexis, to honor the first Native-American player in the Major Leagues. Who are the mythical “Cleveland Caucassians” named after?
Well, your spelling is not correct, but the Caucasians are named after all the white people that think it’s cool to represent another race with such a buffonish logo..
Rats, I caught not being able to spell from you. It’s *buffoonish*.
Dear Sir:
I could wear the Caucasian sweatshirt but my son cannot because my wife is Asian. How about the Cleveland Caucasian-Asians.
I don’t see why that would be a problem. Slant one eye and your wife’s race will be insulted, too. Why should Native Americans bear the brunt of the insults?
whoever came up with this idea can go to hell. give it up people nobody who wheres Indians logos are racists so stop trying to make us out to be them. Its always the people who are actually racist that think they need to get up on their high horse andt go around trying to police the general culture.
Continues to amaze me how a bunch of self righteous white people can tell me that Native Americans are insulted and Chief Wahoo should be dropped because of it, when most Native Americans really don’t care and all intelligent people realize they have far more pressing issues then the Cartoon Mascot of a professional sports franchise.
Only deal with “the most pressing issues.” Right. Because you’re too busy for the time and effort it would take to consider that — even though you’re not racist, and have no intent to harm in your support for Wahoo — the logo offends and insults a race of people, for easy to understand reasons. It would be the easiest thing in the world to get rid of it. You won’t have to lift a finger, I promise. I’ll write the press releases and organize the press conference, if necessary. No need to make new hats, because they already have good alternatives. In the meantime, you might consider that it just might be an embarrasment that the only racial caricature that was created by one race to represent another that’s in any way acceptable in America is on the hats of the MLB team in our city. Does it make it more, or less fun for you that the race on the hats happens to be one that was essentially exterminated by the race that made the logo?
And don’t you think it’s interesting that while at the same time Cleveland has been the only city in America, and maybe the world, to maintain such a symbol as Wahoo, it’s also suffers the longest major-professional sport championship drought of any city in America?
Here’s a good read on the issue, that you’d obviously benefit from reading:

And if you think the Indians were named to “honor” Sockalexis, you need to do some research. You can start with the local newspaper editorials that ran on the day the name “Indians” was announced. They’re linked at the Cleveland Frowns post above.
Thanks,
