The city officially announced the restrictions yesterday, saying they may only last until the end of the summer. In the meantime, signs will let drivers know where they can and cannot park.
Any car found parked in the following areas from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on weekends will be towed:
Old River Road from Main Avenue to St. Clair Avenue
West 10th Street from Main Avenue to St. Clair Avenue
West 9th Street from Front Street to Superior Avenue
West 6th Street from Lakeside Avenue to Superior Avenue
West 3rd Street from Lakeside Avenue to Superior Avenue
St. Clair Avenue from West 9th Street to West 3rd Street
Lakeside Avenue from West 6th Street to West 3rd Street
Although these restrictions mean a night out will take more planning, the city has implemented them so emergency vehicles can safely access the increasingly popular areas. And, of course, for those willing to pay, parking lots are still available.

There are plenty of empty parking lots in Downtown Cleveland if you are willing to walk a few feet.
Use BER!
Why? Because they collect revenues from the valet companies that they sell the streets to, and taxes from the parking lot companies. At the same time these areas also become “No Stopping” areas, meaning the police can ticket Lyft, Uber, and taxi drivers for pulling over to the curb to pick up a passenger. This has happened to me. The city of Cleveland doesn’t care about public safety, they only care about revenues.
What gets me in Cleveland why is parking selectively enforced? Certain areas Cleveland police let people park all over the place in bus stops, no parking or stopping zones and even on private lots. This kind of selective enforcement really gets me, if you go around University Circle, The Cleveland Clinic , Downtown or near west 25th you better pay close attention to where you park, any other area around Cleveland is open parking no matter what the signs say. Who makes up the areas that are enforced or not enforced??
Crazy how street parking isn’t banned in larger cities and their emergency services can still operate. This smells like bullshit
By forcing me to pay to park in a lot, or use valet parking, the city has just guaranteed that I won’t be spending money in the Flats (for which they can charge entertainment tax and sales tax)…or even be going down there any time soon…definitely not for the rest of the summer, and maybe beyond.
I don’t exactly go down to the Flats a whole bunch anyway. I am not a drinker anymore and have never been a foodie. But for those who are either one , or who are both, this news has to suck.
Somebody will most likely be making a real killing from this move, but it won’t be from me.
