We're awarding 500 points to Akron Beacon Journal columnist Bob Dyer for this lede:

The next time you think you’re having a bad day, image how Valerie Spruill felt when she discovered that her husband and her father are the same person.

Oh my. Stories like this one, which was published last fall, don't come across our desks too often. We discovered it this morning and would like to share.

The tale of Valerie Spruill, a 60-year-old Doylestown woman, is not a simple one. Nonetheless, she's upbeat and spending her time showing others that there's always a way to turn around a bad situation.

Here's the gist of it all:

The man in question, Percy Spruill, died in April 1998 at the age of 60. Born in Mississippi, he worked in Akron as a truck driver and, later, as a parking-lot attendant at Morley Health Center.

He and Valerie’s mother hooked up when he was only 15.

We’re not sure how many offspring Percy Spruill helped produce, but at one point, apparently, he figured that one of them would be a suitable spouse.

Following an odyssey of truth-gathering, Spruill tells Dyer that she carries no hate for her late husband/father.

“I want this to be more of an inspirational story,” she tells the ABJ. “If I’ve come through this, anyone can come through anything through the help of the Lord."
