That which is normally the province of our far-north brethren may be showing up along the Lake Erie horizon tonight. That’s right: The northern lights (aurora borealis) may be visible from Cleveland.
A solar flare that shot outward into space on Tuesday is arriving at Earth today. The aurora effect will be best viewed this evening.
Snow showers are possible tonight – and the skies will likely remain partly cloudy – which could hamper the sight-seeing. Nevertheless, spots like Edgewater Park, Lakewood Park or Lakefront State Park all seem like choice spots for the show. Tweet photos of the nighttime display @Cleveland_Scene if you’d to share your prizes with the community.

Northern Lights was the name of one slick bluegrass band that released cool tunes from the middle 1970s to March 2010.
Do you have a general time when it may be possible to see them? Early or late evening? Would like to take my girls to one of the parks but they do have school tomorrow!
I’m finding out that it’s pretty hard to nail down a solid timeframe, Natalie. Most reports essentially say that 8 p.m. onward (with a peak sometime closer to 2 – 4 a.m.) is the general range. Clouds are going to be an issue, of course, but it should be cool to try to catch a glimpse!
Northern Lights is also one of the most commonly known strains of marijuana…
All the parks mentioned will also be completely closed most of the night too…so you can get arrested while enjoying a rare natural phenomenon. I do not understand why all our parks close at night when so many places outside of Ohio have 24/7 parks.
Ah, maybe next time perhaps.
New to the area, we were going to go out to Lakewood park, but it’s closed? Suggestions on where to view?
