For centuries, scientists struggled to crack the code behind the hieroglyphics of ancient Maya. Then, in the late 20th century, they were finally able to interpret the hieroglyphs. Breaking the Maya Code, a 2004 documentary feature that won numerous festival awards upon its release, explores the events that led to cracking the code.
