2/5-7: Antaeus Dance at Pilgrim Congregational Church

Antaeus Dance artistic director Joan Meggit says it’s become a tradition for her Tremont-based company to perform “Home Grown” concerts — which she builds out of works by local choreographers — every two years. For the 2010 edition, she invited Jenita McGowan and Marissa Glorioso to contribute new pieces; Meggit will round out the program with works from her repertory. McGowan’s “Romani” promises to be a highlight, with music (pre-recorded, unfortunately) by the Trepanning Trio, local purveyors of exotic sounds from around the world. Meggit calls the piece “elegant yet earthy.” To build her other work, McGowan watched dancer Sherri Mills improvise movement and edited her gestures and steps on video to make a kind of ghost-choreographed piece called “Heart’s Terrain.” Meggit says Glorioso’s solo piece “Apologia” is about a woman’s sense of self and the drive to move forward. The program also includes Meggit’s “Straight Forward & Slightly Off Kilter” and “Drift In, Drop Out,” which will be accompanied by (again, pre-recorded) Allen Ginsberg reciting poetry over music by Philip Glass. “Why walk when you can crawl or slide?” she asks.
