Artists' Block

Since Acme Artists opened more than a year ago, co-owners Mark Ball and Christian Harwell have tipped their berets to Canton's burgeoning art colony. On the first Friday of every month, the duo rounds up painters, sculptors, and furniture makers to sell their pieces outside the gallery during the Acme Artists Block Party. "It is what it is. When the weather breaks, it's a great turnout. We get art groups from Youngstown and Warren, and they come and go, 'Wow! How can we do something like this back home?'" says Ball. "It doesn't take a lot of organization. You just have to declare it and let it organically happen." The block party is from 5 to 10 tonight at Acme Artists, 332 Fourth Street Northwest in Canton.
