Caddies are out, hotties are in at the HornDog State University Four-Man Golf Scramble. The hotties are the "school's" team of busty women who, in their short shorts and tight T-shirts, serve beer and cheer on the golfers. "None of them are strippers, though," says organizer Russ Crowder. "They're, like, schoolteachers and stuff like that."
The scramble starts with an 18-hole round (the winner snags a week-long cruise), capped off with a party at the nearby Level Sports Bar & Grill, where golfers will swap stories over a free prime-rib dinner.
The tourney is a prelude to Crowder's plans to build a HornDog State University Bar & Grill on a local college campus. The bar's spring-break theme is linked to his "cyberspace university," a working website where college students chat and view the HornDog Gear clothing line. "Imagine a perfect university with six tennis courts, six swimming pools on Lake Havasu, where you can water-ski between classes and take courses on sex toys and S&M do's and don'ts," Crowder says. "It's a place where you party your ass off." The outing starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Cherokee Golf Course, 5740 Center Road in Brunswick. It takes Mike Farley of Lakewood an hour to drive to the nearest mountain-bike trail. That's why the president of the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association is on a mission to build more of them. And he'll show you how at Saturday's Mountain Bike Trail-Building Clinic. Because laws ban the sport in county and national parks, only a select number of state recreational areas welcome new trails. "There's a big demand for off-road biking in the area," Farley says. He'll demonstrate construction techniques, such as benching ("It's basically cutting into the hillside") and trail-armoring ("It's like bricklaying").
