Simon and Garfunkel

When Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel touch down in Cleveland Monday at the Gund, the nostalgia faucets are sure to turn on full force. The "Old Friends" tour reunites the key duo of the '60s and '70s in a concert sure to be long on classics -- and Simon tunes. (Despite several solo records, Garfunkel has been ever more the last name of this celebrated duo.)

The canon Simon & Garfunkel constructed -- "The Sound of Silence," "Mrs. Robinson," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Cecilia" -- is sturdy, and their harmonies surely were a marvel (whether they will be still remains to be seen; both are 61). Does this tour mean that Simon has renounced the innovative but commercially fatal path he took with "The Capeman"? Does it mean that Garfunkel will return to the movies? Leave it to the celebrity press to speculate. Suffice it to say that this hardy rock brand, supported by a two-CD Old Friends extension from Sony Legacy, will warm the cockles of baby-boomer hearts.
