When Scene last checked in on Akron’s All-American Bridge on North Main Street, folks residing the in valley under the snake-like structure were enduring a small problem: Bodies were raining from the sky. Since its construction in 1981, the bridge has served as the launch site for over 45 suicides and countless more attempts [“
Suicide Bridge,” June 8, 2005]. Unfortunately, the flying humanity had a tendency to fall on playgrounds, people’s roofs, and in their backyards.
But since the collapse of the Minneapolis bridge, residents now have a somewhat larger concern, worrying about the entire bridge falling on their heads. The Ohio Department of Transportation released a list of 16 bridges across that state that have the same structural problems as the deceased Minneapolis span, and the All-American Bridge is among them. –
