Brothers Jason and Steve Kocab felt there was room in the marketplace for a quick-service Asian food concept. After one too many “bad $10 meals” on the road, the brothers pulled a Bill Clinton and said, “We can do better!”

On March 1, the pair opened Mashiso Asian Grille (24954 Brookpark Rd., 440-801-1184) in N. Olmsted, about a quarter-mile from Great Northern Mall. Mashiso is Korean for delicious, says Jason, whose mother is Korean.

“These are the flavors we grew up eating,” he says.

Customers choose whether to “wrap it, roll it, or bowl it,” with delivery options including a 12-inch tortilla, 8-inch sandwich bun, or bowl. Asian-flavored meats are marinated overnight and grilled and include kalbi-style sliced flank steak, Thai chicken curry, and spicy pepper pork. Finally, diners select a starch (white rice, brown rice, fried rice, noodles) and sauce (most popular is cilantro-chile mayo).

Add-ons include Asian slaw, cabbage kimchi, and grilled bok choy.

In addition to making the marinades, Kocab says that most sauces, sides, and salads are also prepared onsite.

Meals cost approximately $8 including drink and take only two or three minutes to prepare.

  1. I’ll say what Mr. Trattner didn’t: this is the BEST Asian food I’ve tasted in a long, long time! The whole experience is very pleasant, from the choosing what you’re having to eating in the trendy dining area. I “wrapped” the kalbi style beef, bok choy, and the noodles, and it was phenomenal! Not being a local, I wish them so much success that they open one in our town!
