Portune

  • Portune

Todd Portune was going to announce his candidacy for Ohio governor today, but then he didn’t.

The plan was to live-stream the news on Cincinnati.com. (Portune is a Hamilton County commissioner.) There are still two major requirements Portune needs to meet prior to the Feb. 5 filing deadline: name a running mate and gather 1,000 signatures from Ohio voters.

“While I have been unable to do that so far I am not prepared to bring this effort to a close,” Portune told Cincinnati.com.

The Portune campaign is most notable for presenting what might be the most formidable primary challenge to Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald.

FitzGerald recently named attorney Sharen Neuhardt as his running mate, but not before encountering his own set of campaign hurdles.

  1. Some major players in the party – statewide and probably nationally – have certainly sent out feelers to find out what Portune wants to become a team player. Fitz needs an open field to the general election for the big-ticket consultants – who earn massive checks to jump into high-profile campaigns – to give him a complete makeover and have him appear to be much more than a generic county politician.

  2. I think it is clear after nearly all the leaders in the democratic party already endorsed Ed FitzGerald, that they feel a need to send total support to Ed to win the election. Ed and his people have worked hard over the last year to be in the position he is now in. The Lt Governor problem scared us a little, but I like the way the FitzGerald folks are focused clearly opposite of the Governor of Ohio ….. the guy from Reading PA…what’s his name? Kucinish or kasic or something like that…His first name is John is all I know….LOL Oh! He does not still live in Reading but in Westerville…not too far from one of his bosses “Underwear Boy” the billion-aire republican fellow what’s his name More or Less Waxer or something like that.
