The woman, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical examiner as Megan Springsteel, was one of several violent deaths over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Twelve-year-old Abdel Bashiti was killed when he was struck by a stray bullet outside his father’s beauty supply store at Buckeye Road and E. 116th Street Friday. Early Saturday morning, a 31-year-old was shot and killed in Collinwood.
Saturday afternoon, the body of an unidentified man was found floating in the Cuyahoga River near the West Bank of the Flats. And Saturday evening, a 43-year-old woman was sitting in the living room when she was struck in the head and killed by a bullet fired outside her Union-Miles home.
As for Megan Springsteel, officers arrived on the scene about 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Police will continue to investigate the death. The Medical Examiner’s office told Scene Monday that there has not yet been a ruling as to cause of death.

Do your research. This was not a violent death. This was a simple accident. I pray you have a good attorney because this goes beyond the scope of freedom of speech. This takes a hard step into the category of defamation. I would be cautious as you are stepping on thin ice. Consult your general counsel and realize that this goes beyond the scope of protected speech. Id suggest removing this article, as it will likely result in a defamation suit against you and your employer.
Whenever someone says “do your research”, you can bet they haven’t themselves done any research, but are operating on hearsay, misinformation, or blatant untruths.
When he says, “do your research”, I suspect the first comment references the fact that the property in question where the young woman died lacks a balcony– it is a first floor apartment with a small front porch.
Balcony makes a better a headline– much more sensational. I see no sign of reporting here, just copying and pasting from a police report with some shuffling of word or two.
I was best friends with her current boyfriend, in high school. Very nice kid. So sad to hear this news. Wish I knew what happened.
