Katie Couric came to Cleveland last month to film an episode of "Cities Rising," her series on resurgence and growth in (formerly?) distressed cities across the country. She even toured the West Side Market
with Scene's own Doug Trattner.
You can watch
clips from the episode here. Enjoy all the AARP commercials!
In the above, Couric speaks with Matthew McConaughey, who was also in town for the filming of
White Boy Rick, wherein Cleveland will be made to resemble Detroit of the 1980s.
McConaughey was seen out and about quite a bit during his stay, and he implemented a curriculum from his
Just Keep Livin Foundation at John Adams High School. Here, McConaughey discusses poverty and violence in Cleveland. Then John Adams Principal Terrance Menefee — who estimates that he has 13-14 students walking around with gunshot wounds — and CMSD CEO Eric Gordon discuss the progress of the school district.
Stay tuned to that channel because on June 22, the second installment will come out and feature more on Cleveland's West Side Market.
