Update: WKKX radio is reporting that the man has died. (WTRF)

Those faint of heart and weak of stomach might want to bypass this post.
Officials in Bellaire, Ohio, dealt with a stomach-curdling case this week as they arrived at the home of a man who had sat in the same chair for two years. You can imagine the scene they stumbled in to.
WTRF reports that the 43-year-old man was found unconscious, covered in his own waste and maggots, and basically bound to the chair. Yes, after two years of sedentary squatting, his skin had fused with the chair.
The obviously obese fella had to be cut away from his perc,h and authorities had to cut a hole in his house to remove him before transporting him to a hospital.
And if all that isn’t weird enough, there’s this: he had a roommate and girlfriend, both of whom did nothing about the man’s condition.
This article appears in Mar 30 – Apr 5, 2011.

Ok so how did he go to the bathroom? I keep hearing he did it in the chair but come on 2 years worth of poop in a chair? The chair itself would be made of poo by then. I am having trouble with story exactly how it is written something is missing.
Someone needs to go to jail! That’s inhumane.
Don’t you just love a story like this when everyone points a finger at everyone else but no one is responsible. Some what like what I am going through with this county. I have been living in this house that the landlord refuses to have the exterminator come in on a regular basis. I can’t afford to move, I have lost things that I have had all my life. Most of all my disabled adult daughters will have to be placed till I can find another place. But I still can not get help to move. We fall between the cracks, 300 a month over getting help from the disability/elderly agencies and too old to get the county health department from doing a thing.
Both daughters are of the autism spectrum disorder group, no help there. One of them will probably die while seperated from her mom. Our country has become a nation of excuses. And I for one am sick and tired of them.
The ONLY person to blame is the FAT GUY who sat in a chair and didn’t get off his lazy but!!! They should have put his chair outside with the animals.
MaBell: Sorry, in this case, the other two were abiding by the wishes of the fat guy, whether that was good for him or not. They are seen to be not negligent, according to what I read. For instance, this off another news site :
“Following this incident, residents of the area are now asking how something like this could be allowed to happen. WTRF reported that Belmont County legal authority has said it does not appear to be a legal issue, as the man was not being held against his will, was not forced to remain confined to his chair, and had access to proper hygiene resources. Sources told WTRF that the man actually insisted on remaining in the chair, and had his girlfriend to bring him food and sodas.”
If you don’t help yourself, you can’t blame others. In your case (and I can understand, because I live with a disability as well) and in others’ there are HUGE cracks. I’m sorry about that as you are (angry even!) but what can be done, other than work within the system as best we can, and try to work to IMPROVE the current system.
thats just plain disgusting and lazy. i mean, what has the world come to? if i was his girlfriend i would have left him a looong time ago, and make him get his own damn sodas
Did they find him in the rumpass room?
