The Utah-based home security provider SafeWise published their list of the safest Ohio cities this week, and unsurprisingly the city of Cleveland didn’t make the cut.
But many Cleveland suburbs did, much to the chagrin of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, and South Euclid are all featured.
You can check out the full list of safest Ohio cities here, and let us know in the comment section below if your hometown is named.

This article appears in Jan 8-14, 2014.

At the end of the day, it’s how the citizenry feels about personal ownership of their community…..no matter how large or small the total population.
The French Ministry owes Cleveland Hts. a handjob.
Of course Lakewood is on there. You can drive from one end to the other in 10 minutes and all of the major roads run from one end to the other as well. Everyone knows about the cops reputation in this city.
Wasn’t their a recent article published in the PD about Cleveland Hts. Police not reporting some violent crimes?
wondering if this was just a rewrite of a press release or if the reporter actually contacted the company to see how they compiled this list. This could be an example of synergy, where a “news” story is actually more of an ad for Safewise.
With the list excluding all cities under 15k population, I don’t see this list as being very informative. Broadview Hts and Mayfield Hts sit right next to Brecksville and Gates Mills, respectively. Yet the latter two don’t even show up, by virtue of their falling below the arbitrary threshold. With just over half the US population living in small town jurisdictions of populations under 25k (2000 census), limiting the list to 15k and over seems to ignore a huge chunk of the population. In Ohio alone, well over half of the total number of cities in the state are under 15k – 140 versus 111 (2010 census). That doesn’t even count the 681 villages in the state, most of which are well under 15k in population. Of what use is this list of ‘safest’ cities, if so many smaller towns – ostensibly some of the safest in the state – and huge numbers of people aren’t even looked at?
I did a study on France and concluded that it sucks.
