Party Tonight on Akron's Highland Square

Sure, The Lime Spider and The Bucket Shop may have closed, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing left to do in Akron, as Highland Square will be hosting festivities and first-rate drinking opportunities this evening. First, pop into The Matinee, which will be celebrating its one-year anniversary and current reign as the best bar on the Square with cheap beer and homemade hummus, courtesy of the owner’s mom, Barb. Then stop over at Annabell’s, which recently updated its basement in hopes of becoming the Akron music scene’s newest turf. L.O.B.D will be taking the stage at 10:30 with their Misfits-inspired horror punk. It’s a spectacle worth seeing, thanks to the drunken shenanigans of, well, the entire band. Even if you aren’t amused by Eric Pollack’s grumbling vocals, the $1 pints will surely keep you satiated. Or you can just at stay home, watch the Indians whup the Yankees, and then partake in this Akronite’s favorite pastime: -- Denise Grollmus
