Earlier today, as a way of celebrating the legacy of Inductee Donna Summer, the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Playhouse Square invited local media to a special artifact presentation with Donna Summer’s daughter Mimi Sommer, who gave the Rock Hall two of Summer’s dresses, including the one she wore in the photo that appears on the cover of her
Four Seasons of Love album.
The event took place in the Rock Hall’s newest exhibit, the Garage, where fans can learn to play Summer’s song “Last Dance” on drums and view Summer’s signature in the Hall of Fame gallery.
“We’re honored it’s Donna Summer day today at the Rock Hall,” said Harris. “We talk about how music gives us a sense of belonging and gives us our tribe and our family. Donna Summer’s daughter Mimi is a huge part of that family. She has generously provided with us with these stunning dresses we can exhibit to tell Donna’s story.”
The presentation also served to help promote the national tour launch of
SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical at Playhouse Square, which began this week. Performers from the musical were on hand for the event.
“We’re glad to donate these items, and it gives us the ability to allow her legacy to keep going, and hopefully new generations who might not know her at well will have a new appreciation for her,” said Mimi Sommer. “We hope everyone will enjoy the artifacts and go see the musical, which is going to 24 different cities. We hope people come and dance if they wanna dance and sing if they wanna sing.”
